There I was flipping through my Good HouseKeeping April issue to see the stating:
Good HouseKeeping and CVS/pharmacy have designated May as National Toss Your Makeup Month - a reminder to replace old makeup and personal products. They're not only ineffective but can be harmful as well.
From March 30 through April 26, CVS/pharmacy will celebrate National Toss Your Makeup Month, providing you with exclusive incentives at their stores nationwide, as well as on cvs.com
So how many of you almost passed out? The thought of ditching my beloved MAC Maroon pigment almost makes me sick to my stomach. I agree that some products need to be tossed. Foundation and mascara are top on the list. Other items I'd consider are liquid liners, body lotions, dried up cream products, etailer liquid soaps and any lip products that have a funky smell. Everything else stays! No 20% off sale is going to have me tossing my LE items.
There are reasons to toss your makeup. If you had an infection and used the product. You have a low immune system. All makeup contains some type of bacteria even when first purchased. Someone with health problems are at a greater risk of infection.
My standard for tossing:
Foundation 1 year (including mineral foundation)
Mascara 2-3 months
liquid eye liner 1 year
Body lotions & liquid body items 1 year
Everything else I keep unless it shows signs of a problem.
What are your thoughts on when to toss your makeup items?
Here is an interesting article to read if you have time: The Pendulum
May National toss your makeup month?

I totally will be doing a makeup toss! I'm right with you on your standards for tossing!
i think it is a way for cvs to make more money.
make-up junkie - Thanks for stopping by! I look foward to reading about the new items you buy.
Dani - This was a thought that crossed my mind.
I've officially designated May "You Are Full Of Poo, CVS" month.
This is ALL about them making more $$ and preying on people's fear of germs to do it is beyond shady.
I keep everything till it runs out, except mascara, which I toss every 6 months. I've never had any infections or problems.
