Hair Tutorial for Beach Waves

In a recent entry Beach Waves coming at you I talked about products and gave a text tutorial. I was in the mood for some light waves of my own so I took some pictures as I went along. Since I now I have shorter hair this was a bit of a challenge. I only wanted a very light wave. I found that keeping the twist in tack for a shorter amount of time gave me the wave I wanted. A longer time gave me tighter waves. If you would like to see my natural hair type check out the entry Review Update: FHI Turbo Hair Dryer Nano wieght pro 1900.

Now for the tutorial:

This is after washing my hair. Then dried my hair to about 70-80% dry.
Next I sprayed my hair with Frederic Fekkai Summer Hair Beach Waves and combed through.

Divide your hair into sections or do a section at time. Which ever is easier for you. Grab a small section depending on the size of waves you would like and apply a little more of spray.

Begin to twist the section until it is twisted all the way up to the roots of your hair.
Secure the hair with a bobby pin.

Repeat and continue until you have all of your hair in coils.

Allow to completely air dry. If you are pressed for time you can use the hair dryer on low or medium setting to dry the coils. I wanted to speed up the proccess. I set my dryer on medium heat and medium speed (adjusting the temp and speed as needed). Using the Diffuser to get up close to the coils to fully dry them. I finished up with blast of cool air to help set the coils.

Once dry remove the bobby pins and gently loosen each section.

If some of the hair is still wet use your dryer with the diffuser attachment to finish drying the hair. Being careful to not over handle the loosened coils.

I like to get my roots to help add volume since the process can often leave them flat.

Now you just run your fingers though the coils to break the hair up into waves.

If needed you can add hair gloss or other products to the hair at this time. You can also add more wave spray and scrunch the hair with your hands or a towel. Keep in mind that beach waves are typically not perfect and a bit messy.
