As an active member of the nailboard on
Makeupalley.com I find myself first up to elbows in polish and second always finding new creative ideas that can be done with nail polish. In the past I have blogged about nail polish
marbling and
frankening (mixing your own polish). Now there is a new technique out called watercoloring. It works by layering a sheer and dark color while they are both still wet. To help give you and idea of what it can look like and how to do it I created tutorial. Keep in mind that much like marbling you can get many different looks by using more color or applying the dark color in different areas of the nail.

The amount of dark color you apply and where you apply it will give you different results.

When you apply the sheer color over everything the colors will start to mix. You can continue polishing to change the results and move the darker color around more. Make sure to wipe the brush before putting it back into the bottle because it will have the sheer color on it. I used tissue or paper towel to wipe the brush. This is something I also do when I apply my clear coat when I do my usual mani/pedi so the colors do not mix in my bottle and mess it up.

As you can see I went for a watercolored flower petal look. If you apply the dark color close to the nail base/cuticle you can get more of a faded looked.
