Aveda Sun Care Hair Care

Just in time for summer, Aveda is launching a new line, Sun Care, that will cleanse, condition and protect your hair with an all-natural UVA/UVA filter -- not to mention an amazing natural, organic aroma. This line launches May 1, 2009.

My hair type:
Right now I have chemical dye and henna in my hair. After years of using body art quality henna I wanted to change my color and switched to chemical dyes. My hair could not handle it so I switched back to henna. The dye has made my ends dry. My scalp is oily. I have medium thick hair but the texture is fine.

*Sun Care Hair and Body Cleanser*
Product information:
Removes chlorine and salt plus product build-up from hair. Color-safe formula with corn-derived chelator gently removes chlorine, salt, and product residue. Tamanu and organic coconut oils help maintain moisture balance. With green tea, organic sunflower oil and Vitamin E. Refreshes with a light tropical aroma with organic neroli, ylang ylang and cistus. For all hair types.

My Experience:
During our small heat wave the past few days I have spent some time in the pool. Normally I end up with dry hair and a funky feeling for a few days. When I first used the cleanser I worried that it was going to strip my hair. Instead I got a very good cleaning. The cleanser helped to remove build-up from a silicone hair polisher I started using. It also removed the funky feeling from chlorine. The cleanser has a citrus scent.

*Sun Care After Sun Hair Masque*
Product Information:
Restores and helps repair sun-exposed hair. After-sun formula with morikue protein. Tamanu oil and organic coconut oil moisturize sun-exposed hair. Our anti-oxidant blend green tea, organic sunflower oil and Vitamin E helps protect against free radical damage. For all hair types.

My Experience:
I did not want to put this on my hair. It has a citrus medicine smell. I am glad I got over it and massaged it into my hair. A perfect compliment to the cleanser. This softened my hair and the smell changed to become only citrus once rinsed. I have used this masque even when I did not go swimming because it does such a great job.

*Sun Care Protective Hair Veil*
Product Information:
UV filters help protect hair. Sun protection spray for hair. Water resistant. use daily and before and after swimming.

My Experience:
This sprays out in a fine mist which helps to get even coverage. It has a citrus smell to go with the rest of the line. I used this before swimming, after swimming and after washing my hair. I was worried that it would be oily but I can not even tell that I sprayed a product in my hair. Protecting my hair from UV rays is important to me to help prevent sun damage. Most UV hair products I try either feel greasy or weigh my hair down. This one is light and perfect for a person who uses other hair products like a leave-in conditioner.

Overall Thoughts:
I love this line from Aveda. For years now I have spent my summers trying to find the perfect sun/pool hair care. Finally, I have found one that does the job without causing my hair to be dry, greasy or both at the same time (I will never understand how that is possible). I tried to think of a compliant but nothing comes to mind. Each product performs the actions it was designed to do.
